Documentary photographs of a Social Activity Group session for elderly living in poverty organised by the Association of Our Lady of Mercy in Bucharest, Romania. The members look forward eagerly to their once a month meetings, a chance to socialise, eat and take home some extra food packages. The Association is led by Sister Rose Carmel.
Sister Rose Carmel runs the Association of Our Lady of Mercy in Romania. Amongst their many activities is a Seniors Activity Group, in Bucharest.
They run monthly Social meetings for groups of 8 to 12 elderly and infirm, living in poverty. These meetings offer a chance for them to travel, using the groups minibus, to escape their worries for a few hours and meet friends, chat, maybe sing and dance, to have some welcome food, maybe celebrate someones birthday and relax. Someone is always on hand to listen to their concerns and to offer comfort, encouragement or help. Everyone returns home with some basic provisions to help tide them over until the following month.
